Our mission

The achievement of Academic excellence in a Caring environment that is founded on Christian belief and behaviour, so that students are equipped to act with wisdom, compassion and justice as faithful stewards of our world.

Why TIGS?

Academic excellence

The Illawarra Grammar School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in our Junior School, Kindergarten to Year 6. The NSW Government curriculum is studied in the Senior School in Years 7 to 10 with the NSW Higher School Certificate Course offered for Year 11 and Year 12.

Students excel across a range of disciplines. Each student is supported with a focus on their personal best in a culture of high effort and achievement. TIGS students regularly feature in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) Merit Lists which recognise the top Year 12 achievers in NSW. Typically, 85-90 percent of TIGS graduates are accepted into university courses in Wollongong, Sydney, throughout Australia and overseas.

English language tuition

TIGS offers English language tuition for international students within our ELICOS Centre. Our High School Preparation (HSP) Course teaches English and academic skills that students need, combining intensive English language study with English for specific Australian high school subjects. While studying this course, international students also study alongside Australian students as they participate in academic, cultural, sporting and social activities at the School.

Learning opportunities

Students have access to an extensive co-curricular programme, encouraging students to pursue their passion. TIGS offers a diverse range of activities including sports, community service, visual and performing arts, academic challenge, language and culture clubs, chess, outdoor education and overseas tours.

Teacher quality

Our staff are of the highest calibre, handpicked for their extensive level of expertise and dedication, providing your child with the ideal environment to achieve their best.

Your home away from home

Homestay offers a unique opportunity for students to experience the Australian lifestyle and culture in a safe, friendly and caring ‘home away from home’ environment.

This experience gives international students the opportunity to practice their English on a daily basis.

Students are accommodated throughout their entire experience, in carefully selected homestays with a local family. These families are reputable and provide quality accommodation.
